There I was sat in a cafe enjoying a frappe watching the world go by in Argostoli before heading to the office and the ground began to shake rather violently. Only lasted about 20 seconds but the tremor was certainly felt, the largest since i've been in Kefalonia. Apparently it was 4.7 on the richer scale and the epicentre was only a few miles away under the Ionian.

Team Jolly! Great day had out after hiring two speed boats from Aghia Efimia. Day ended at stupid o'clock in Katavothres in Argostoli where a round for 6 drinks came to €90!

This must be one of the hottest summers to have been experienced in Greece for many years. Certainly the country has experienced massive numbers of wild fires that have devastated huge swaths of land.
This week and for the forth time this summer temperatures have hit in excess of 40 degrees and remained at this level for days on end. The mainland is having to once again deal with huge wild fires, which are like experiencing something similar to a volcanic eruption - huge quantities of smoke and ash that turn day into night and night into day (with the red orange glow reflecting in the smoke), mountain sides alight with flames reaching a hundred feet into the air and visible for miles (the edge of the fire which meets fresh vegetation burns most furiously of all and can appears from a distance to be a lava flow).

Went for a sail and took in Meganissi, Scorpios and Lefkas. Had to swim ashore to Scorpios as its privately owned by the Onassis family.

Despite earlier comments of mine in regard to the lack of things to do in Kefalonia, in comparason to other destinations i have spent time in, the isle certainly has a richer history than most. For one i never quite realised the extent of the massacres that took place here towards the end of the war, upwards of 9,000 Italian troops were murdered in cold blood by the German's.
Seems to be a recurring theme everywhere i end up, less than 70 years ago the German's murdered and massacred thousands in cold blood.
And to think, here in Kefalonia they still celebrate one day a year in rememberance of the British pull out from the island after just 5 years of occupation during the mid 19th century.

Made it back to Argostoli just in time to play in the weekly FTO v Kefalonia Police in 5-a-side footie. Played well and scored a couple. Then hit the town after freshing up and eventually made it to bed about 3am.

If you ever need to find 130+ rooms for guests in Kefalonia in July at a moments notice don't even bother... you won't find them. Put'um on the beach next to a taverna instead!

An Emergency Response Procedure (ERP) the Greeks don't seems to have, at least in Kefalonia. Thankfully MYT and most of the FTO does seems to have and understand the importance of an ERP. Ketelios & Skala evacuated due to wild fires.
The Greek authorities are great in issuing compulsary evacuation orders but don't help or assist the local population in actually evacuating. Not to mention the fact that current fire fighting techniques lack punch. Is it a wonder then when the result is screaming locals in front of television cameras watching their villages burn to the ground. 6 people dead, 12 villages damaged and 2 resorts evacuated in Kefalonia in a single night.

Living in the islands capital, Argostoli. Really surprised at how little there is of any interest here in Kefalonia when you take into consideration it's size and such long, rich history. Admittedly, it is a beautiful island surrounded by stunning azure waters but there is so little here to see or do if you find yourself here on a prolonged stay.
More recently the island has become synonymous with the film Captain Corelli's Mandolin. Some may remember the 1953 earthquake that destroyed much of any worth on the island, including most of the capitals fine Venetian architechture.
